Since 2017, Marathon County's Regional Morgue Task Force has been on a transformative journey, working towards the creation of the Regional Forensic Science Center (RFSC). This initiative goes beyond traditional death investigations; it seeks to revolutionize how we handle these situations, support grieving families, and contribute to the education and well-being of our community.
OUR VISION
A Hub for Education and Empathy
The RFSC, in partnership with Northcentral Technical College and the Medical College of Wisconsin, is set to become a cornerstone for education. With enrollments in medical professions declining, especially in forensic pathology, funeral science, and emergency medical services, this center will play a vital role in growing and retaining our local workforce. By connecting students with local employers, we ensure that talent remains in Central Wisconsin.
TRANSFORMATIVE IMPACT
Medical Autopsies + Tissue Donation
The dedicated Tissue Donation suite within the facility will provide closure for grieving families while contributing to medical advancements. Through medical autopsies, the Pathologist can identify undiagnosed conditions, offering families a deeper understanding of their medical history. Tissue donation not only gives the gift of life but also aids in disease prevention and mitigation strategies, benefiting the entire community.
Grief Support
The Comfort Room, designed with a trauma-informed care approach, is more than a physical space; it's a refuge for investigators, pathologists, and authorities to meet with grieving families. Adjacent to the facility, the Grief Garden provides a serene outdoor space for solace and shared memories.
Ensuring Community Resiliency
In the unfortunate event of a mass fatality incident, the RFSC will be at the forefront of providing efficient forensic analysis, identification, and coordination. This expertise will offer closure to families and support disaster response efforts, ensuring the well-being of our community.
