Who Takes Care of My Road?

Numbered Roads

Roads with number designations (such as State Highway 29, 153, 97) are the responsibility of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT). The DOT contracts with the County Highway Department to provide maintenance services. Issues regarding maintenance of these roads should be reported to the DOT.

Lettered Roads

Roads with number designations (such as County A, B, BB) are the responsibility of the County Highway Department. The Highway Department provides maintenance services including plowing, mowing, and brush cutting to name a few.

Named Roads

Named roads (such as Glendale Avenue, Peach Street) are municipality roads. Contact the local municipality for concerns regarding these roads. A list of Marathon County municipality officials is available for reference.
